What do we need to do to prepare?
Many people who come to us have their hair and makeup professionally done before arrival. We also recommend removing old nail polish, having hair cut and colored at least a week in advance. If you are applying your own makeup, pay special attention to your eyes with heavier mascara and liner to really accentuate your eyes.
What is your return policy?
All sales are final. We cannot sell your custom artwork to another family.
I have a certificate, why do I have to pay a deposit?
We are a very in-demand, high-end portrait studio and limit the number of appointments that we accept based on our capacity to create stunning pieces of art for our clients around the world.
We block out our studio and staff, who come in from out of town, for two hours for every appointment. Our session fees are in place to assure that we are booking serious and committed clients.
If you've been invited through a promotion or certificate, your $200 deposit is refundable after portrait selection. Your complimentary credit covers artwork at no additional charge. Many clients walk away with exactly that and nothing more.
I don’t want to be in the portrait, can you only photograph my child?
If you have received a gift certificate exclusively for a family portrait, all members of the family must be present and included in order to redeem your portrait session. Children under 5 years of age may not be photographed alone. If your child is well behaved we will ask them to partake in individual portraits at no additional charge.
Can you photoshop acne?
All of our portraits are completed with artistry.
"What does 'complimentary' mean?"
Complimentary means we're providing it as part of our service offering with a refundable deposit to hold your spot. Your $1,000 complimentary credit is guaranteed and covers a finished 14-inch Realism portrait at no additional charge.
"What happens at the reveal?"
You'll see your portraits in our theater room and select your favorites. We'll show you options, make recommendations, and answer questions if you're interested. All purchasing decisions beyond the complimentary portrait are completely optional.
"What if I can't afford the larger sizes?"
Your $1,000 complimentary 14-inch Realism portrait is a stunning, finished piece of art. Hundreds of our clients are completely satisfied with it and never purchase anything additional. That's a perfectly good choice.
"How is Mallory Portraits different from other portrait studios?"
We create heirloom artwork meant to last generations, not digital files you'll forget about. Your photographer directs every pose and creative choice so you don't have to think about posing or lighting. We work with the best labs and materials because we believe your portraits deserve to be archival quality. We also donate thousands of portrait sessions to nonprofits across New England every year because we believe families deserve to be remembered regardless of budget. Whether you're exploring a single 14-inch portrait or a larger wall piece, we show you options and respect your choice. We're not here to push you toward the most expensive thing. We're here to help you get the art that's right for your home.
I only want digital files, do you provide those?
Like most businesses we generally have on going specials and promotions. Please inquire with your Art Director at your viewing appointment for our Digital Masters Collection. Digital Masters are available as an add-on during your Reveal appointment (beginning at $1,200). Your complimentary 14-inch portrait (if applicable) or session fee covers the portrait experience, digital files are optional.
How long is our appointment?
Plan for approximately 2 hours total. First hour: ~45 minutes of photography + 15 minutes of image prep. Second hour: portrait selection in our theater room with an Art Director.
What do portraits cost?
Artwork commissions such as wall art, larger prints, and digital files range from $1,200-$10,000+. Most people find themselves somewhere in between to get what they love. If you have a complimentary credit, artwork is included. If you're booking without a promotion, our artwork starts at $1,000 for a 14-inch Realism portrait. Please visit our pricing page for more details.
Do you provide framing?
We are not a framing company but as a convenience for our clients provide framing for less than retail rates. All portraits that Mallory Portraits frames will come with a lifetime guarantee. See our framing info.
"Can I really walk away with just the complimentary 14-inch portrait?"
Yes. Many clients do exactly that. Your complimentary portrait is a complete, finished piece of art. You're not obligated to buy anything beyond it, and your refundable deposit is returned to you after portrait selection.
"How do refundable deposits work?"
Your session deposit is refundable after your portrait selection appointment if you booked through a promotion or certificate. You can accept it as refunded or credit it toward additional artwork if you choose.
“I read bad reviews saying this is a scam. Should I be worried?"
We have over 550 five-star Google reviews. Read them. People come in, have a beautiful experience, and love their artwork. A very small number of people arrived with misaligned expectations about pricing or what the session included, and we're genuinely sorry about that. We've made our confirmation emails crystal clear about what to expect and how pricing works. We stand behind our work and our process. The reviews tell the real story.
I have a question about my order, who do I call?
Please contact our production line: 603-691-3984
"Is this a bait-and-switch?"
No. We've never used the word "free." Our marketing uses "complimentary," and that's accurate. Your $1,000 complimentary credit covers one 14-inch portrait. You know exactly what you're getting before you arrive.
"Will I be pressured to buy more?"
No. We show you what's possible and answer your questions honestly. Your complimentary portrait is complete and beautiful on its own. Our Art Director's job is to respect your choices, not push you toward more.
"What's the difference between complimentary and free?"
Complimentary means we're offering it as part of our service with a deposit to hold your spot. Free has no conditions attached. We use "complimentary" because it's accurate about our model.
"Who's actually taking our photos and who are you guys?"
We're a team of photographers, artists, and creatives who genuinely believe your family and your pet deserve to be documented beautifully. Katelynn is our chief photographer and the person who leads most of our shoots. She's been doing this for years and has a gift for making families feel comfortable while capturing real moments. Julie, Cortni, and Christina are our Art Directors who guide you through the selection process and make sure your artwork is exactly what you envisioned. We also have Kaitlyn and Maria photographing sessions regularly, and they bring the same level of care and expertise to every family that comes through. We're based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and we work with families and pets across New England. What matters is that everyone who walks into our studio is treated like family and photographed like they matter, because they do.
