FAQS

What is your session fee?

Our session fee is $200 and covers your portrait experience as well as your exclusive portrait proofing. Please plan to be with us for approximately 2 hours.

We are not formal people, can we still have our portrait made?

If you are not formal people you may dress in all dark colored tops. See our Portrait Attire and Gallery for wardrobe examples. Please make special considerations when choosing your outfits for your forever portraits.

What do we wear for our session?

See our Portrait Attire and Gallery for wardrobe examples. Once you book your portrait session us we provide a more detailed PDF explanation to help your wardrobe planning process.

What products do you have?

We have fine art wall portraits, portrait boxes, and albums available at the studio.

We want to make a dinner reservation, when is it safe to plan for that?

Because we a bringing people together most enjoy having a meal together after their portrait session. Please allow 2 hours for your time in the studio and make your reservation 2 1/2 hours after your portrait session start time so you do not feel rushed.

What do we need to do to prepare?

Many people who come to us have their hair and makeup professionally done before arrival. We also recommend removing old nail polish, having hair cut and colored at least a week in advance. If you are applying your own makeup, pay special attention to your eyes with heavier mascara and liner to really accentuate your eyes.

I don’t want to be in the portrait, can you only photograph my child?

If you have received a gift certificate exclusively for a family portrait, all members of the family must be present and included in order to redeem your portrait session. Children under 5 years of age may not be photographed alone. If your child is well behaved we will ask them to partake in individual portraits at no additional charge.

I have a certificate, why do I have to pay a session fee?

We are a very in-demand, high-end portrait studio and limit the number of appointments that we accept based on our capacity to create stunning pieces of art for our clients around the world.

We block out our studio and staff, who come in from out of town, for two hours for every appointment. Our session fees are in place to assure that we are booking serious and committed clients. If you are a client who books with a gift certificate, the session fee is fully refundable after your proofing session (as long as you show for your appointment).

I only want digital files, do you provide those?

Like most businesses we generally have on going specials and promotions. On occasion we have proofing options available for your portrait needs. However, we do not exclusively offer digital portraits as we pride ourselves in our wall artwork.

How long is our appointment?

Plan for the entire family to be with us for 2 hours. We do have a children’s room where teens and well behaved children are able to stay while parents choose their portraits. Upon request we have child wrangling and entertainment available.

What do portraits cost?

Artwork commissions range from $1,000 and can go up to life-size $10,000+.

Do you provide framing?

We are not a framing company but as a convenience for our clients provide framing for less than retail rates. All portraits that Mallory Portraits frames will come with a lifetime guarantee. See our framing info.

Masterpiece Finish

Those who love the commissioned oil painting look gravitate towards the MASTERPIECE portrait. Your family portrait will fit right in with your art collections around your home. Complete with enhanced customization of all aspects of the final piece, from the details in the suitcoat to the highlights on the jewelry and especially the background, we are able to create a one-of-a-kind forever portrait. The pigmented inks on USA made canvas used in your portrait are covered with a UV inhibitor and have a life expectancy of over 100 years. Sizing starts at 30”. This archival product will be passed down for generations and the bold texture and rich oil brush strokes (optional) rival that of a John Singer Sargent.

Realism Finish

REALISM portrait is a photograph and is produced on archival crystal textured fine art paper. With the Realism the artistry occurs mainly over the face and eyes, and everything else is left untouched. We use our signature, custom-made, hand-painted, blue-gray canvas for the backdrop which brings out the skin tones of our subjects. Our artists handle all aspects of your portrait with artistry. This beautiful artwork is covered with UV protection and is currently rated for 80+ years.

“[The portraits] are FANTASTIC!!!! Thank you so much.  They are truly awesome, exactly what I was hoping for.  You captured us!!!”

A completed original portrait should always be signed and include a frame. The frames at Mallory Portraits use exclusively selected woods and are built by hand in California from master craftsmen. These exquisite frames have closed corners with no visible seams. Created with the most discerning artistry, these frames are individually hand antiqued from only the finest gold leafing imported from Europe.

We prefer gold-toned frames for all of our work to bring out the skin tones of the individuals. However, we do offer additional frame styles depending on your personal preference; from modern to classic in various colors.

For those looking to masterfully display their new artwork, we also offer a hand-crafted nameplate and a unique custom built frame light. The museum quality gold leaf nameplates are cut from hard wood and gilded with 23 karat gold. Each customized nameplate is hand lettered with permanent black ink and sealed.
